Amanecer en el Parlamento Europeo
Parliament is the institution that represents the citizens of the European Union. Together with the European Commission and the Council of the European Union, it exercises the legislative function. It is considered the first institution of the European Union.
The European Parliament has two meeting places:
- Strasbourg, where twelve plenary sessions are held four days a year and is the official seat of Parliament.
- The complex of buildings in Brussels. It is the larger and serves for committee meetings, political groups and supplementary plenary sessions.
Thursday at Luxembourg Square
If you want to have a little fun and enjoy a non-tourist atmosphere, Luxembourg Square is your place. Every Thursday from 5:00 p.m., the square fills with people who work in the institutions and gather to have a few beers. Considering that this square is in the European quarter and that thousands of people from all countries of Europe work in the surrounding buildings, it is probably the most cosmopolitan and international corner of the city of Brussels.
Visit the Parlamentarium
One of the most interesting visits to Brussels is the Parlamentarium, at least for the people most interested in the political world.
In this space you will discover the European Parliament with an original perspective. Interactive multimedia screens, 360º projections on a screen, a replica of Parliament… The visit is available in 23 different languages and admission is completely free. In the end it includes information about how the European Parliament works, its influence on daily life and it is also possible to connect with parliamentarians. Although it may seem a very serious theme and designed for adults, it is also a totally recommended place to visit with children.
