European Parliament

Located in the Luxembourg Square in Brussels and surrounded by institutions, Parliament is an emblem of Europe and its capital. An anthill of business people in the center of the European Quarter in Brussels.

Parliament is the institution that represents the citizens of the European Union. Together with the European Commission and the Council of the European Union, it exercises the legislative function. It is considered the first institution of the European Union.

The European Parliament has two meeting places:

  • Strasbourg, where twelve plenary sessions are held four days a year and is the official seat of Parliament.
  • The complex of buildings in Brussels. It is the larger and serves for committee meetings, political groups and supplementary plenary sessions.

Visit the Parlamentarium

One of the most interesting visits to Brussels is the Parlamentarium, at least for the people most interested in the political world.

In this space you will discover the European Parliament with an original perspective. Interactive multimedia screens, 360º projections on a screen, a replica of Parliament… The visit is available in 23 different languages ​​and admission is completely free. In the end it includes information about how the European Parliament works, its influence on daily life and it is also possible to connect with parliamentarians. Although it may seem a very serious theme and designed for adults, it is also a totally recommended place to visit with children.

An interesting walk from the center to the Parliament

Walking from the center of Brussels to the Luxembourg square is a recommended walk. Leaving from the Grand Place, you have to go towards the mount of the arts where the Museum of Music and Fine Arts is, and cross the Brussels park in front of the Royal Palace to finally reach Luxembourg Square. The estimated time of the walk is 25 minutes.
