The two most monumental cities in Portugal are waiting for you, are you ready? Prepare to get amused in this astounding excursion where you’ll to get to know the city of Porto. A fabulous trip in which you’ll discover all the charms and treasures of one of the most important cities in the country.
You will be accompanied at all times by the best expert local guides, since they will be the ones waiting to welcome you in Lisbon's Don Pedro IV Square, right next to the National Theatre. From there you will go to Praça Restauradores, where we will take off to Porto.
Before starting there will be a brief stop to have breakfast and recharge our batteries, and believe us when we say we’ll be needing them, since Porto is full of things to see! Once you arrive in Porto, we will discover the city with the best guided tour. Beginning in the surroundings of the Ribera del Duero, we’ll have a charming start in the most beautiful natural area of the city, declared World’s Heritage Site.
In there is the Chapel of Our Lady of Ó, a wondrous building from the 17th century, that was deeply remodelled in the 19th. From there we’ll see the famous Fonte Taurina, which is the guarding gate and entrance to the restaurant area. The greatest variety of locals awaits you to taste the rich and delicious gastronomy of the city with the best views of the Duero river.
Going up from the Ribera, you will reach the most famous bridge in Porto, named after Don Luis I. On one of its sides, there is a commemorative plaque that remembers those who died during the fight between the people of Porto against Napoleon. The Don Luis I bridge was built in 1877and this construction is one of the most representative monuments of the city.
Crossing the river through this bridge, we’ll arrive at the Church and the Clérigos Tower, these two buildings are the greatest exponents of Baroque art in the city. In addition, the almost 80 meters high of the tower allows it to be seen from any point in the city.
Following the ascent through the streets of the city, you will reach its highest part where the Porto Cathedral is located. Known as Sé do Porto’s Cathedral, this majestic temple built throughout the 12th century, has a façade with a sensational mix of styles. You will know the history of the temple and the main elements that its interior keeps, so prepare to learn a bit about Porto!
You will also walk by the São Bento railway station, one of the most striking places in Portugal, decorated with tiles that reveal amazing images of the country's history.
Before finishing the tour, you will cross to the other side of the river to contemplate the historical part of the city, where the Vinho do Porto Caves are located.
Porto is a land worshipped for its good wine, so we can not end this trip without knowing a bit more about this remarkable beverage. After finishing the tour, we’ll have free time to discover the city as we want to, and try the wonders their gastronomy has to offer.
