About Van Gogh Museum Guided Tour Intro

Undoubtedly one of the greatest artists of the 19th century, the stories behind some of the most recognizable paintings of Vincent van Gogh will surprise you. We will discover, hand in hand with one of our English-speaking expert art guides, all the history behind his paintings and the life experiences that led him to paint them

Itinerary Itinerary

Located in Museumplein, together with the most important museum in Amsterdam, the Van Gogh Museum includes many of the painter's iconic art pieces. In addition, this square is also where you will wind the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk and the I Amsterdam logo. Definitely a place you must visit during your trip to Amsterdam!

Once we are in the Van Gogh Museum we will be able to admire some of the most popular paintings ever while enjoying an in-depth explanation of their fascinating meanings and relevance. Sunflowers, Almond Blossoms, The Potato Eaters or Bedroom in Arles are some paintings of the country's most influential artist, together with Rembrandt, that are displayed in this museum

We will get to observe a timeline of Van Gogh’s life on the ground floor, here we will also see some of his numerous self-portraits, where his changing mental state is revealed to us. As we continue our guided visit, we will reach the first floor of the museum. Here we will learn about the many influences the artist had, like his artistic friends, his stay in Paris and its modern art, the peasant life and his fascination for Japanese art.

Next, on the second floor, we get to listen to some of the artist’s letters to friends and family, with special attention to those he sent to his beloved brother Theo. Here we will discover more about his relationships and personal life. Finally, on the third floor we will learn about Vincent’s passions, his deteriorating mental health, his final days and death in Auvers-sur-Oise, and the legacy he has left behind and that continues to this day.

The Van Gogh Museum also has an Exhibition Wing that hosts temporary exhibitions that are very interesting to visit if you have the time. In addition, it also has a store where you can buy tickets and beautiful souvenirs such as prints of many of the paintings and drawings on display, a restaurant and toilets.
