Itinerary of the trip to Bruge & Ghent from Brussels

Departure at 08:30 am from the centre of Brussels, and transfer to the charming town of Bruges. Enjoy one of the most fascinating medieval cities in Europe with an English-speaking guide, and discover why the entire historic centre of Bruges is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

You will have 4h as free time for lunch after the guided tour to explore the city as you please. Our guides will recommend you some of the exclusive Bruges pastry shops, where you will find the best chocolate in the world, and pop into some of the legendary lace shops.

What are we going to visit in Bruges?

  • Lake of Love, Also called Minnewater, it is one of the most romantic places in Bruges, with a unique love story hidden inside it.

  • Begijnhof (Beguinage), One of Bruges most representative places, Begijnhof is also known as “Monastery of the Vineyard”. This place was declared a World Heritage Site in 1998

  • Walplein, Bruges Walplein square is perfect to discover the medieval side of the city which fascinates everyone

  • Stoofstraat, Stoofstraat is one of the narrowest streets of the city where you can buy any kind of souvenirs you wish for

  • Sint-Janshospitaal (Museum), Opposite to Notre Dame Church, the Sint-Janshospitaal (Saint John’s Museum) is one of the oldest hospital buildings in Europe

  • Church of Our Lady, This church is definitely full of history and art, focusing on the impressive Michelangelo’s marble 'Madonna and Child'.

  • Gruuthusemuseum, This palace belonged to the Grunthense family, one of the most powerful families in Bruges. Nowadays it has been converted in a Museum

  • St Bonifacius Bridge, Don’t lose the view of this charming bridge: it dates from early 20th century and is one of Bruges’ youngest bridges

  • Rozenhoedkaai, Rozenhoedkaai is one of the most stunning places in Bruges and for this reason one of the most photographed places, which you can snap in a photo. An ideal location to stop for a moment and enjoy one of Bruges most timeless sceneries.

  • Huidenvettersplein, This tiny square is surrounded by restaurants and always full of artists gazing around, giving the square an intimate and relaxing atmosphere.

  • Burg Square, Burg square is where the town of Bruges was firstly born and for this reason you can find the Town hall of Bruges.

  • Basilica of the Holy Blood, A Romanesque lower church connected to the Neo-Gothic upper church where the Holi Blood is preserved. A legend says that here a part of the Holy Blood was brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace.

  • The Grote Markt and the bell tower, This is Bruges main market square, where you can find the most important buildings of the city and walk through the crawling atmosphere.

  • Belfort, Last but not least, another symbol of Bruges, another world heritage site! the tower dates back to the 13th century and is characterized by a stunning view over the city and its surroundings.

The following stop will be Ghent, one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. You will have 1h as free time as free time after the guided tour so as to explore the city as you please. Taste some of the exclusive Ghent delicatessen shops, where you will find the best Flemish food and local breweries, and pop into some of the legendary channels.

  • Ghent Town Hall (Stadhuis), It is a huge building with a complex façade. it seems to be formed by two buildings, but it is a trick!

  • The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, The Ghent Altarpiece, or ‘The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb’, is one of the most impressive pieces of art, painted by the van Eyck brothers, Hubert and Jan

  • Het Belfort van Gent, The 91-metre-tower is famous for its Dragon, which observes Ghent and protects its inhabitants

  • Saint Bavo's Cathedral, Saint Bavo is the patron saint of Ghent: he lived between 589 and 654 and he was born in a rich family of Liege.

  • Saint Nichola's Church, Gothic example close to Korenmarkt square

  • Mason's Guild Hall, Before 1976 no one remembered its presence, but in 1976 this building was renovated, giving it back to its city!

  • Korenmarkt, Not only a place full of history, but also a monumental area where to take a nap.

  • Sint-Michielsbrug bridge, The perfect romantic scenery for your photos and selfies!

  • Sint-Michielsbrug church, Here you will find the famous painting ‘Christ on the Cross’ by Anthony Van Dyck. The church contains others paintings and sculptures by famous masters.
  • Graslei and Korenlei, A beautiful place close to the river where to sit down and explore with your senses. Characterized by a relaxed atmosphere, this area attracts both tourists and local people.

  • Great Butcher's Hall, If you are looking for traditional products, you have to step into this amazing market!

  • Kleine Vismarkt, In this monumental building you’ll find marvelous, industrial event halls.

  • St. Veerleplein, It is the only remaining mediaeval castle with the remaining part of a large intact defence system, the oldest in Flanders.
