With Buendía Tours, this image can become a reality if you decide to take a gondola ride during your trip to Venice.
This picturesque gondola ride (with a maximum of 6 people if you decide to share the gondola) lasts about 20-30 minutes from embarkation to disembarkation.
The use of gondolas in Venice is not something recent. Its origins date back to the year 1094 and during the 18th century the canals were full of these boats that transported the inhabitants between different parts of the city. However, there are fewer and fewer gondolas (less than a hundred today) since it is very expensive to obtain the license and many of them are replaced by motorboats.
What is a gondola like?
The gondolas of Venice are considered one of the most beautiful and elegant boats in the world. In fact, the traditional Venetian gondola is built using special techniques that incorporate symbolic meaning. For example, the gondolas have a ferro (an iron ornament on the bow) characterized by its 6 pettini strips, representing the symbol of the 6 sestieri (divisions) of Venice.
This part of the gondolas is made of iron and has an essential utility for the proper functioning of the gondolas: it balances the weight of the gondolier. Also, if you look closely, with their S shape they evoke the fluid movement of the waters in the Grand Canal in Venice.
Long and narrow, the gondola has an asymmetrical contour that facilitates its propulsion with a single paddle, which also offers a curvature in the area of contact with the water. On the other hand, the forcola is a special lock with which the paddle is held and that, thanks to its complex shape, allows various positions such as slow paddle, forward, turn, brake, and go astern.
Enjoy the most romantic Venice by taking a gondola trip with your family, with your partner or with friends. It will be an experience that will leave you with an unforgettable memory of the Italian city.
During the gondola trip, you will discover the unique views and beauty of Venice as well as palaces, beautiful bridges, and, ultimately, an Italian atmosphere that you can only feel in this corner of the world.
