First, we'll visit Murano, an island world-renowned for its glass factories, that produce the famous, premium-quality Murano Glass.
Although Murano has had a busy commercial port ever since the VII century, it wasn't until 1291, when Venetian authorities moved the glassmaking industry to the island in order to prevent fires in the city, that the village started to grow rapidly. This new status granted many privileges to the local glassmakers, who, on the other hand, were banned from leaving the Venetian Republic.
As part of this tour, we'll visit a Murano glass factory, where we'll learn about the ancient glassmaking techniques from a master artisan glassmaker. Later, we'll enjoy a walk around this beautiful island that has a lot more to offer than just its glass.
The second island we visit is Burano, located nearby, north of Venice, and undoubtedly one of the most picturesque locations in the Venetian Lagoon. Known for its traditional lacework, probably its most striking feature is the wide array of colors on display, with every house painted in a different, and always bright, colour. This results in a very joyful village, whose reflection can be seen on the water that surrounds it from almost every angle.
A very small island, but full of magic and charm, that will make you fall in love with its narrow streets. Here we'll also visit a local artisan worker, this time a creator of elaborate lacework, who will teach us about the century-old techniques that are passed from one generation to the next.
Throughout this tour, we'll travel back in time and immerse ourselves in the history of these islands, to fully understand their traditions, historical moments, and, of course, myths and stories.
