Trip to Covadonga Lakes and Cangas de Onís from Santander

Planning an excursion from Santander to the Covadonga Lakes can be complicated if you do it on your own, as there are limitations to access with your own vehicles, depending on public transport and not knowing the environment. 

Therefore, we suggest you to join this organized plan, where you will not have to worry about anything: it has a complete itinerary that combines guided tours and free time. In addition, if you want to do it in private, you only have to contact us.

We will meet early in the morning, and drive directly to Asturias to bridge the distance between Santander and Lagos de Covadonga, about two and a half hours. 

Covadonga Lakes and Sanctuary of the Virgin Mary

The trip will take us through impressive roads, for its unique views, to the National Park of Picos de Europa, where we will visit the environment surrounding the famous lake Enol and lake Ercina. 

The guide will give us a guided tour of about 45 minutes, in which he will explain details of the park, the landscape, the characteristic fauna -where the cow and the asturcón stand out- and the flora.

He will also talk about the importance of tourism for the conversation of this natural enclave.

Afterwards, there will be about an hour free to connect with nature, enjoy the characteristic mountain scenery, take pictures, relax or have a drink. 

After visiting the Covadonga Lakes we will go down to the Sanctuary of Covadonga to greet the Santina. We will see the majestic Basilica built with stones from the mountains of Covadonga. 

The guide will tell us the history of this place, of King Pelayo and its importance, and we will have free time to walk around, go to the Cave of the Santina and marvel at the view. 

Cangas de Onís

Afterwards, we will discover the charming village of Cangas de Onis, with the Roman bridge on which hangs the cross of victory.

It will be here where you can enjoy the Asturian gastronomy, with free time for lunch. We will arrive at the village, take a short guided tour and then you will have two hours of free time to have lunch at your leisure. 

We will return to Santander in the afternoon. All in all, it will be a complete, intense and enriching excursion, suitable for all ages and ideal for families.
