Itinerario
From the medieval legacy of Santillana del Mar to the prehistoric art of Altamira and the mountainous beauty of Potes, each stop on this tour will take you back in time. It will connect you with the most authentic essence of northern Spain.
The adventure begins with a comfortable bus transfer from Santander. Our first stop will be Santillana del Mar, a village that seems to be frozen in time.
Its cobbled streets, manor houses and the majestic Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana create a unique atmosphere that seems to be straight out of a fairy tale. Here you will have free time to stroll around at your own pace, admire its historic buildings and, if you wish, enjoy breakfast in one of its cosy cafés.
We will continue our tour to an iconic prehistoric site: the Altamira Cave. Entrance is included, allowing you to explore the famous neo-cave, a faithful reproduction that uses advanced technology to preserve the fragility of the original site. In addition, we will visit the Altamira Museum, which houses a fascinating collection on Palaeolithic art and life
After contemplating the cave paintings, declared a World Heritage Site, we will head towards the heart of the Picos de Europa.
On the way, we will cross the imposing Hermida Gorge, the longest in Spain at 22 kilometres long. This natural pass, flanked by steep rocky walls that rise up to 600 metres high, offers spectacular views. Along its route, it is common to see various species of gliding birds that live in the surrounding forests.
When you reach this village, which has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, you will understand why it was chosen in 2020 as the most beautiful inland village in Spain. Its cobbled streets, houses with wooden balconies and medieval atmosphere create a postcard-perfect setting, framed by the majestic Cantabrian mountains.
During your free time for lunch, you can take the opportunity to try the famous cocido lebaniego, a traditional dish that, like the village, captures the essence of the region. With its mixture of chickpeas, meat and sausages, it is a delicacy that comforts both body and soul.
Don't miss the opportunity to discover the treasures of Cantabria in just one day, book your place now and live a unique experience!
