Itinerario del Free Tour Palermo
Our tour begins on the footsteps of Sant´Ignazio all´Olivella Church, where our guides will be waiting for you, in the area of Champagneria, home to the main architectural jewels of Palermo.
The first stop on our walking tour is in Piazza Verdi, in order to admire the great Teatro Massimo, the largest opera house in Italy and the third-largest in the whole of Europe. Built during the XIX Century to honor King Victor Manuel II of Italy, this spectacular neoclassic theatre is as special as it is majestic. On top of everything else, The Godfather's latest installment was filmed here by Francis Ford Coppola!
We then walk along the Via Maqueda until we reach Quattro Canti, a peculiar square that is a must-visit in Palermo. The oldest street of the city, adorned with large sculptures, starts here and is the most photographed location in town. Close by, we find the old Gallerie delle Vittorie and the Piazza Bellini, where we discover the Palazzo Pretorio or Palace of the Eagles.
Our tour also takes us to visit the Fontana Pretoria in the beautiful Piazza Pretoria. This square is also known as The Square of Shame, due to its statues that won't leave anybody indifferent. From here we'll head towards the Chiesa de Santa Caterina, facing the Iglesia Martorana, both of which we'll visit given their historic interest and artistic value.
After crossing the Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Palermo´s main street, we find ourselves in front of the Cathedral of Palermo. This is undoubtedly the most stunning and beautiful place in Palermo, mostly because of the oriental style inner patio full of palm trees. The amazing temple is already considered a World Heritage site by UNESCO, and you won't be able to resist taking pictures of every single detail of its stunning and majestic facade.
The Free Tour of Palermo will help you discover the most important squares and monuments and its history. An essential tour in order to truly connect with the capital of Sicily and get to know this Italian enclave home to one of the most important Mediterranean ports.
