Guided tour of Oviedo Cathedral

Oviedo Cathedral stands as the heart of the city's historic quarter and a key site for understanding its rich past. With its single spire, this Gothic gem was built over an ancient basilica.

We'll begin our guided tour at the entrance, but before stepping inside, we'll take a minute to admire the intricate spire, a testament to the blend of styles that characterize the Cathedral.

Although primarily Flamboyant Gothic, the structure has absorbed elements from various eras through centuries of renovations, offering a journey through art history.

Once inside, our first stop will be the Main Altarpiece. This magnificent gilded work, among Spain’s most celebrated Gothic altarpieces, consists of 24 separate altars, and it tells the Gospel story across its five levels.

Next, we’ll visit the Chapel of the Chaste King, located in the north transept. This space houses the Pantheon of the Kings, making it one of the Cathedral's most historically significant areas.

You’ll also marvel at the Gothic-style interior doorway as we exit the chapel and step into the Holy Chamber, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where relics from the Holy Land are carefully preserved.
