Day trip to Cathedrals beach, Ribadeo, Isla Pancha and Tapia de Casariego from Oviedo

From Oviedo, we head towards the Galician coast to discover some of the most breathtaking corners of northern Spain. Among them is the spectacular Beach of the Cathedrals (As Catedrais), a natural wonder that, at low tide, transforms into an open-air cathedral. You’ll be able to walk down to the sand and wander among stone arches sculpted by the sea, in a setting that is both awe-inspiring and silent.

Depending on the tide, the beach will welcome us in the morning or bid us farewell at sunset.

Another place included in the route is Isla Pancha, a postcard-perfect island just off the coast, offering one of the most stunning views in the north. From its viewpoint—even more impressive than the now-closed lighthouse—you’ll gaze over the estuary embracing Figueras and Castropol, like a living painting where land and sea blend in calm harmony.

Ribadeo will greet us with a mix of history, architecture, and local life. We’ll explore its streets on a guided tour that includes the San Roque neighborhood, the Torre de los Moreno, the old town, the port, the Casa do Patín, and the Convent of Santa Clara.

After the tour, you'll enjoy free time to explore its flavors, shops, and charming streets at your own pace. If you wish, it’s the perfect moment to try the famous pulpo a feira or sample some of the region’s most traditional seafood dishes.

And at some point along the way, Tapia de Casariego will appear—serene and open to the sea. Stroll around its harbor, take in the views from the Os Cañóis lookout, or simply sit and admire the landscape. Here, less is more.
