Itinerary
Travel from Llanes to the Covadonga Lakes with this excursion of several hours that will take you by bus and accompanied by a guide to the Sanctuary of Covadonga and Cangas de Onís.
In Llanes, next to the Sablón beach, there is a large parking area ten minutes walk from the bus station, the meeting point.
We meet there in the morning to set course, without stops, to the Covadonga Lakes, enjoying the Asturian roads and the views along the way.
Covadonga: Lakes and Royal Site
After about an hour and a half, we will arrive at the Covadonga Lakes, an imposing natural environment in the Picos de Europa National Park.
We will learn, together with the guide, the history of this iconic place for all Asturians, which receives thousands of visitors every year, and the details of the glacial formation of Lake Enol and Lake Ercina, which you can see from the Entrelagos viewpoint.
After a guided tour, we will have free time to discover the fantastic biodiversity of the area, with a varied fauna and flora, and where many lovers of active tourism spend hours hiking routes.
Afterwards, we will go down to the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Covadonga, with the Basilica as our first stop. Together with the guide, we will learn about the history and importance of this place, built in the 19th century with stones from the mountains.
During the free time we will have, we can visit the Cave of the Santina, with the patron saint of Asturias. This charming place will surprise you even more from the pond.
Cangas de Onís
After a half hour bus ride, Cangas de Onís, the last stop of this itinerary, awaits us. In a short guided tour we will learn about the history of the first capital of Spain, established by Don Pelayo after founding the Asturian Kingdom.
The guides will tell you where is the best place to eat and you will have free time to savor the Asturian gastronomy at your own pace, wherever you prefer.
If you bring food from home, you can take the opportunity to wander around and discover this historic and important city at your own pace.
After this break, we will return to Llanes around 18:00.
