Day trip to Picos de Europa from Gijón, Cares Route and Cabrales tasting

Starting from Gijón, this excursion will take you to some of the most emblematic places in the Picos de Europa.

The route starts in the direction of Poncebos, following the course of the River Cares, an area where the mountains rise imposingly, and the rural villages seem to have stopped time.

In Poncebos, the starting point of the route, you can follow a section of the Cares Route, a path that crosses an impressive gorge and, in this Asturian section, offers unique views of the Cares Gorge, carved into the rock.

A funicular then takes you to Bulnes, a village in the heart of the Picos de Europa. The 8-minute journey, completely underground, is an experience in itself.

Once in the cobbled village, you will discover a place almost untouched by time: narrow streets, traditional houses and an environment that invites you to get away from it all.

Here you can visit its chapel or climb to the viewpoint from where you can see the majestic Picu Urriellu, a natural icon that has been a source of inspiration for mountaineers and travellers from all over the world.
