Day trip to the Picos de Europa: Lagos de Covadonga and Bulnes with funicular ticket included

We’ll begin our route in Cangas de Onís, the ideal starting point for exploring the Picos de Europa. From there, we’ll head by vehicle to Poncebos, a small village nestled in the mountains that marks the entrance to one of the region’s most special spots: Bulnes.

The journey up to Bulnes is made by funicular, as this charming high-mountain village has no road access. The ticket is included in the activity, ensuring a comfortable and direct connection to this traditional enclave.

Once in Bulnes, we’ll have free time to explore the village at your own pace. You can stroll through its cobbled streets, admire the traditional local architecture or walk up to the viewpoint overlooking the Naranjo de Bulnes, also known as Picu Urriellu, one of the most iconic peaks in Asturias. Another option is to climb to the historic Bulnes de Arriba, which still preserves the rural spirit of times past.

After returning to Poncebos by funicular, we’ll continue our journey to one of the area’s great natural treasures: the Lagos de Covadonga. There we’ll find a picture-postcard landscape: glacial lakes surrounded by mountains, meadows and walking trails that invite you to take your time and soak in the surroundings. You’ll be able to see Lake Enol and Lake Ercina, explore nearby viewpoints or simply sit and breathe in the tranquillity of this protected area.
