Parc Leopold in Brussels with the European Parliament in the background
Undoubtedly one of the most interesting activities you can do when in Brussels, this tour helps you understand life in the European Quarter, the place where most of the EU's important meetings take place and agreements are signed. With European and national political institutions, lobbies and private interests constantly interacting, this quarter is basically a small city inside of Brussels.
Our guides will be waiting for you at 10 a.m. in front of the Gare Centrale, from where we'll head towards the European Quarter.
After taking the underground, our tour starts with an enjoyable walk through the Parc du Cinquantenaire, built by King Leopold II to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Belgian Independence, and famous for its Triumphal Arc and military hangars now reconverted into museums. The Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History, the Art and History Museum, also as the Cinquantenaire Museum and the Autoworld museum of vintage cars are all located in this park.
Leaving the Cinquantenaire behind, we discover one of the most iconic locations of the European Quarter, the Schuman Roundabout, a square that serves as a focus point for major EU institutions. The Berlaymont Building, headquarters of the European Commission, and the Europa Building, the seat of the European Council and home to the famous Eurozone Summits, are both located here, and our guides will share some interesting facts about these imposing constructions.
Next, we visit another beautiful park, Parc Leopold, where the latest museum added to the quarter, the House of European History, was recently inaugurated. On the other side of the park we find the European Parliament, and our expert guide will explain in detail how the institution that represents more than 500 million European citizens functions. Our tour ends in the busy Luxembourg Square, talking about another interesting topic, the relationship between the European institutions and the lobbies, and with our guide answering all your questions.
