Itinerary
This excursion brings you closer to the reality that thousands of people lived in what was one of the main concentration camps of Nazi Germany.
Sachsenhausen was the nerve center of the network of camps, where the SS officers who later administered other camps, such as Auschwitz or Mauthausen, were trained.
It is necessary to buy the ABC zone train ticket before the activity. From Berlin station, we will drive to the Sachsenhausen camp. The path from the station to the entrance of the camp is similar to that of the prisoners arriving without a return ticket.
Before entering the complex, we will see a general plan where we will appreciate its triangular shape, the reason for which will be explained by our expert guide.
We will review the experiences of the prisoners, analyzing the control tactics used by the Nazis and listening to the tragic stories -and others of triumph- of some prisoners.
We will visit the barracks, designed to house about 150 people, but where there used to be more than 400 overcrowded. Also the camp prison, where those who disobeyed work orders went, described as the antechamber of death.
We will see the infirmary, which far from being a place to rest, was one of the most terrifying corners. There are records of experiments related to hypothermia, poison and sterilization practices, among others.
You will discover stories such as the invention of the gas chamber to save time and costs, walk along the track where prisoners were forced to run, or see a post where some prisoners were hanged -one of them was Stalin's son-.
This tour represents a first-person teaching of what the Nazi regime was like before and during World War II, and should never be forgotten.
Today, it is a memorial site and museum, open to the public for tours and in remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust. It is well worth discovering!
