Itinerary

The trip will begin early in the morning to arrive as soon as possible at the lakes and make the most of the day. Before going up to the Basilica, we will stop at the best viewer to enjoy the stunning views it offers of Lake Ercina and Lake Enol. Our guide will complete this amazing experience explaining the history of the first national park in the country.

This is the perfect place to take photos, although it will be difficult to capture in an image everything that your eyes will see. Continuing our trip, we’ll reach the Basilica of Covadonga, an impressive church made with stone extracted from the mountains of Covadonga. Its purpose was to represent the victory of Don Pelayo in the Battle of Covadonga, the start of the Reconquista

We will also see the cave of the Virgin or La Cuevona, where the carving of the Virgin of Covadonga -known as La Santina by the locals- is found. She is the patron saint of all Asturians and the indisputable symbol of Asturias itself.

It is also known that before the Virgin was established by the Catholic Church, the locals used to pray to a very famous deity in the very same place as the sanctuary is today. It was known as Deva and was a goddess associated with water, which will makes a lot of sense once you get to see the wonderful waterfall that naturally falls in front of the cave.

After the visit to the sanctuary, we’ll head to Cangas de Onís, where you can enjoy a full menu in a typical Asturian restaurant. We highly recommend you to try a full menu, since the Asturian dishes are way beyond delicious. Some examples of their gastronomy are the Fabada, the Cabritu Cociu, Cachopu or the Asturian cod.

If you prefer to freely roam around, you will have two hours of free time. We recommend you visit the Roman Bridge with the Victory Cross that you will have seen so much on your visit to Asturias, the peculiar bell tower of the Church of Santa María while you walk through its arcades, and its cobbled streets.

Relax on the ride back by bus after a long day of wonders, in which you will discover a huge piece of the history of Asturias. Come and discover the beauties and secrets of this little heaven on earth, visit Asturias and discover the paradise!
