Enjoy this trip around the different parts of Spanish Costa Brava, this marvelous coastal region, in which our first stop will be Baix Empordà, a typical area of this coastal landscape.
Itinerario Excursión a la Costa Brava Medieval
This comarcal division, also known as L'Empordanet ("the Little Empordà"), has a beautiful landscape full of medieval-like buildings, clear bays, and a forest scenery stocked with pines. This region is also famous for its pottery and ceramics industry, things that you will see around the villages because of its pottery museums among other things. Peratallada is our next stop.
Its name means 'carved stone'. It was declared a historic-artistic monument, so a lot of its buildings are stone-carved made, a typical construction of fortified medieval towns. Its amazing stone buildings and stone streets are other signals of this past. The Castle of Peratallada is the most important construction in the center of the town, along with a 13th-century church dedicated to Saint Stephen outside the town. Nowadays, the castle is a luxury hotel since the 1960s.
Our guided tour will continue in Pals, another medieval town where its historic center is located on a hill surrounded by plains with a medieval tower built between the 11th and 13th centuries, known as Tower of the Hours whose height is 15 meters. Its streets have this air of medieval times thanks to its façades with pointed arched windows and stone balconies. There are four square towers in total which date from the 4th century.
Begur will follow Pals, and along with the medieval past, it also has an Indian past. This village has important historical remains of medieval architecture, like its castle, which was constructed in the 16th and 17th centuries.
To satisfy our hunger we can have lunch near the sea in Calella de Palafrugell. This fishing village can offer you the possibility to listen to Havaneras and see its beautiful small coves linked to Llafranc, the close coastal town, via a coastal walk. We will walk along the coastal road until we reach Llafranc, which will delight the visitors as they finish this wonderful trip.
