What makes Córdoba so special? The Cordovan patios are a sample of the authentic character of this city. Its festival is recognized as a World Heritage Site so knowing its history and discovering its beauty is essential. During the visit we will visit twelve unique patios full of color, freshness and a lot of life! Five centuries of history through the essence of this wonder hidden in the streets of Córdoba.
During our guided tour you will be able to learn in detail the history of this palace. But from Buendía Tours we now want to give you some basic information about the place. You should know that, for example, the Palace of Viana has five centuries of history.
During all that time, it was inhabited by families of the Cordoba elite. First it was the Figueroa family, who transformed this medieval house into a Renaissance palace. Later, the Marquis of Villaseca, the Cabrera and the Saavedra also lived in the Palace.
This last family had no descendants and put the palace up for sale until in 1980 it became the property of Cajasur, which opened it to the public a year later, in 1981. Since then, it has been considered a National Historic-Artistic Monument. In addition, the patios have the title of Artistic Historical Garden since 1983. Currently the Cajasur Foundation manages the Palace.
Our guided walking tour of the Viana Palace takes a tour of the interior of the house and the courtyards. Thus, this visit is a trip to the past in which to discover a noble house that for five centuries underwent an evolution of architectural styles and that has an important collection of decorative arts and an atmosphere typical of the aristocracy.
In the house of this Palace we can see from leathers to paintings, furniture of different styles, archaeological pieces, tapestries, etc. Thanks to all these goods and decorative elements we will be able to better understand the tastes and way of life of the families of the Cordoba elite.
Córdoba is a city known, among other things, for its patios. In fact, it even has a Festival of the Patios that is considered a World Heritage Site by Unesco. In this context, it is not surprising that the second part of our guided tour runs through the twelve courtyards and the garden of the Palace of Viana.
Each one of the patios and the garden has its own personality (medieval, Renaissance ...) that endows the visit with all kinds of precious aromas and shades. We are facing patios with great prominence despite the fact that they integrate perfectly with the rest of the house and give the palace harmony, beauty and a unique space to enjoy at any time of the day and season of the year. They are also, without a doubt, a symbol of the power and lineage of the elite that inhabited this Palace for five centuries.
If during your getaway in Córdoba you want to know a different and special corner that allows you to move to another time and social class, discover with Buendía Tours the Palace of Viana in Córdoba, a heritage of Roman and Arab tradition but with its own personality that combines different styles: medieval, renaissance, etc.
