Brussels Stock Exchange, today hosts international exhibitions
Brussels has a lot to offer besides the Grand Place, touristic cafés, beer, crumpets and politics, and Buendía wants to showcase it with this tour.
Our tour starts at 10:45 a.m. in the Grand Place, from where we head towards the stock market building, a neoclassic construction and a popular meeting place for the local youth. After crossing the Anspach Boulevard, we get to one of the most charming and authentic squares in Brussels, Saint Catherine. With a majestic gothic church, and the remains of the fish market it once was, the square is a remainder of the city´s maritime past.
Nearby, we find the medieval style area of Brussels, reminiscent of that of other Flemish cities, surprisingly disregarded by many tourists and home to the beautiful Beguinage. Next we once again turn towards the Anspach Boulevard, this time taking Flemish road, the most renowned alternative street in town, full of small local designer shops, modern cuisine restaurants and cocktail and beer bars with unique styles. Much like the districts of Chueca in Madrid or El Raval in Barcelona, this is an area that iss quickly developing and transforming.
Our guide will talk about the topic of immigration, the infamous Molenbeek neighbourhood and the problems Brussels is currently facing.
As we walk along Dansaert Boulevard, the street where all the biggest brands fight over the best location, we discover Saint Gery, a small square home to temporary art exhibitions and local markets. This little and picturesque corner of Brussels is actually the birthplace of the whole city, and offers an authentic Belgian experience.
From Saint Gery, we access the higher part of the city, where we visit the Gothic church of la Chappelle, various comic murals and the Rue de Haute, lined with second-hand bookshops and a favourite amongst local hipster and underground locals.
Last but not least, we discover the amazing square du Jeu Balle and its local flea market, that preserves the authentic Flemish traditions.
Once the tour is completed, feel free to ask our guides for recommendations on where to eat or what else to visit.
