About Alternative Free Tour Berlin Intro

Walk through the streets where Berlin's pop culture began, and visit the social and cultural centres, treehouses, nightclubs and exotic food markets that make the city such a special place. The best way to feel like a true Berliner for a day! Learn about the legal status of graffiti, the importance of urban art in the local culture, and how kebab became so popular...

Itinerary Itinerary

We start our tour in AlexanderPlatz, where we visit the Haus Schwarzenberg and learn about urban art in the city. We then move on to the Kreuzberg district, to discover some of the most peculiar and unknown places in Berlin, such as the Baumhaus an der Mauer which was once a hospital and now is one of the few original squatters' houses that still exist in the city.

Nearby we find some of the most renowned nightclubs in Berlin, in the SO36 and Friedrichshain districts, neighbours of Kreuzberg but separated by the Berlin Wall, which we get to see when we cross the city's most famous bridge, the Oberbaumbrücke. In addition, while we walk from Kottbuser Tor to Schlesisches Tor, we learn about what has become one of the most important dishes in the day-to-day life of the city: the Kebab.

With this free tour, you get to see Berlin from a different point of view, leaving aside famous monuments like the Brandenburg Gate and focusing on experiencing the city not like a tourist, but like a real Berliner.

We will enjoy the Graffiti and urban art in Mitte district: already a part of Berlin's history and culture, graffiti is an expression of artistic freedom that has decorated the walls of this area for decades. We will visit the Haus Schwarzenberg, a true underground temple currently used for art exhibitions by international artists, that once was a factory where many Jewish families hid during the holocaust.

This tour will take us to wander through two of the most interesting and alternative neighbourhoods of Berlín; Kreuzberg and Friedrichshein, known for their mix of cultures, art and social movements.

Without leaving Kreuzberg, we will visit some of the less known places in Berlin, such as the Baumhaus an der Mauer, or the Wall's Tree House. This place is known for being located in the border between the oriental and occidental Berlin.

Next, we will visit the Berthanien Haus, a contemporary museum with some of the most fascinating modern art pieces. Then we will enjoy ourselves at SO36, one of Berlin's most famous nightclubs and home to many big parties and concerts. Every Berliner knows about this place and, thanks to our guides, so will you!

As we walk between the Kottbusser Tor and the Schlesisches Tor station we will talk about the origin of Kebab, the popular Turkish dish that now people all over the continent eat was first introduced to Europe through Berlin. Learn more about its history.

In our visit you will see a different Berlin, leaving behind the Brandenburg Gate, stop being tourist to become in authentic Berlin citizens. But, don't worry if you prefer the most traditional visit of Berlin we have it! You just have to book our Free Tour Berlin
