Departure at 09:00 am from the centre of Amsterdam, and transfer to the magical villages of Amsterdam countryside. Enjoy one of the most fascinating Dutch villages with an English-speaking guide, and discover a picturesque area you would have never imagined.
You will have 1h as free time for lunch after the guided tour so as to explore the city as you please. Taste the real Dutch cheese and the best typical herrings, and pop into one of the legendary clogs shops.
What are we going to visit?
At 9:00 we will meet at Saint Nicholas Cathedral in Amsterdam.
With the best daylight we will visit the area of the windmills. Our guides will tell you the story of the most beautiful postcard in the Dutch countryside in great details. You will have enough free time to have a tour, to take photos of the mills and traditional houses of the XV century in the middle of nature.
We will be on the road for a few minutes to discover the province of Waterland: dykes, polder, locks and a spectacular palette of greens that will accompany us throughout the day. Did you know that the region is completely reclaimed from the sea? Amazing!
You will arrive to the town to discover its alleys and its imposing architecture. A town with a name as peculiar as its famous cheese. Together we will walk through its enchanted streets until we reach the medieval market that has been in operation since the 16th century. Houses surrounded by channels and bridges or spectacular churches of Christian and Protestant tradition make Edam the best place to discover the Golden Age of the Netherlands. Wow
We will then reach Volendam, a fishing village made of small colorful houses and original shops. We will enjoy an aperitif in a cheese factory where we will taste the most typical products from the Dutch farm. You will also have the opportunity to sweeten the day with a demonstration of stroopwafels, the delicious waffle dough cookies filled with caramel. Who can resist the temptation of cheese and stroopwafels? oh yeah..! In Volendam you will have free time for lunch and buy some souvenirs along its promenade.
We will arrive to the spectacular peninsula located on the IJsselmeer lake. Our guides will bring you to a village of fishermen houses and dream gardens facing the sea. One of the houses is still an old traditional clog workshop where we will see them working and we will even try them on!
We will be back to Amsterdam around 4:30 p.m., ending our journey trip to the Dutch mills and towns at the same point where we started the visit.
